Martyred Jawan Ganesh Kunjam Had Plans To Get Married This Year, But Sacrificed His Life At Galwan Valley Instead

This young army Jawan Ganesh Ram Kunjam one of the martyr's from Galwan Valley had plans for a year-end wedding.

New Delhi: Among the 20 soldiers who laid their lives fighting for India during the violent scuffle that broke out in Galwan Valley area on Monday, there was also a young Jawan from Raipur, Chhattisgarh who was soon to be married this year. Ganesh Ram Kunjam who belonged to Kutrutola village of Charama block in Kanker district has joined the army in 2011 and was posted in the India China border barely a month ago. Also Read: India-China Conflict: Full List Of The 20 Brave Soldiers Who Sacrificed Their Lives In Galwan Valley Face-Off According to a report by The New Indian Express, this year, the marriage plans of the jawan was were finalised when he visited home on a leave before the Holi festival. The family could not arrive at a date due to the coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide lockdown, but were looking forward to a wedding later this year. The report also said that Ganesh Kunjam had decided to join the army soon after his class 12 exams. His family was informed about his death by authorities. Also Read: Who Was Colonel Santosh Babu? Know The Army Officer Who Laid Down His Life Fighting For India Against China The last rites of the brave soldier will be performed with full state honours on Thursday in Kanker. Indian and Chinese troops engaged in a violent scuffle on Monday night, causing casualties on both sides. While India lost 20 of its soldiers, media reports say that the Chinese side had 43 casualties including 40 deaths. Also Read: China Claims Sovereignty Over Galwan Valley Region, Accuses India Of Violating Border Protocols As many as 13 soldiers who died during the violent clash belonged to the Bihar Regiment, with twelve of them from 16 Bihar Battalion including Colonel B Santosh Babu, and one from 12 Bihar Battalion. Three of the martyrs were soldiers From Punjab Regiment. Two belonged to Medium Regiment while one each from Field Regiment and MBSC. After the clash, China has claimed sovereignty of the Galwan Valley region and has falsely accused India of violating border protocols. However, India has already clarified that Chinese troops attempted to unilaterally change the status quo, even when military and diplomatic talks were on between the countries.
