Amid Maharashtra Political Turmoil, CM Uddhav Thackeray Tests Covid Positive

Maharashtra Political Crisis: CM Uddhav Thackeray tested positive just hours after governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was reported to be infected from the virus.

New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, confirmed Congress leader Kamal Nath, reported news agency ANI just hours after governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was reported to be infected from the virus. This comes at a time when Maharashtra politics and Uddhav Thackaeray and his party are going through a turmoil after Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde turned rebel taking with him 40 state MLAs on his side.

Shinde was expected to meet governor Koshiyari, following the political crisis, but did not meet after the former tested positive for coronavirus. He has been admitted to HN Reliance Foundation in Mumbai and is undergoing treatment.

Eknath Shinde along with 33 Shiv Sena MLAs and 7 Independents supporting him arrived at a luxury hotel in BJP-ruled Assam’s Guwahati on Wednesday. The rebel legislators said that they have no complaints against Uddhav Thackeray but were upset over the function of the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress — the two ruling alliance partners alongside Shiv Sena.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut hinted that the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha would soon be dissolved. Taking to Twitter, the Sena leader said, “the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra is heading to the dissolution of Vidhan Sabha.”

The rebel MLAs earlier in the day signed a letter in support of Eknath Shinde and are likely to write to governor Koshiyari asking him for a floor test in the State Assembly.
