Launch date of 2016 Honda Accord confirmed

New Delhi: The confirmation of the launch of the 2016 Honda Accord, during the festive season, came from Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India. Now, the launch date of the new Honda Accord is confirmed to be on October 30, 2016,
The new generation Honda Accord was spotted testing in India sometime ago, before which it was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The upcoming Accord will be the ninth-generation model, which will get priced beginning around Rs. 20-25 lakh.
Honda dealerships in Delhi, despite the month and a half before the launch, have reportedly begun accepting bookings for the 2016 Honda Accord for Rs. 51,000. It is expected that the new-generation Accord with new and futuristic design traits will do well in the Indian market.
Though the Accord had been one of the legendary models in India and other parts of the world, its recent upgrades hadn’t quite been doing well. So, after a brief hiatus since 2014, the Accord made a debut and a comeback at the Auto Expo back in February.
What’s even more welcome is that the 2016 Honda Accord will be a hybrid powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol motor good to make 140 PS on its own, while the 1.3kW Lithum-ion battery will contribute another 76 PS.
The engine will come mated to a CVT gearbox, though a manual may also be on the cards. Being also a hybrid will enable the Honda Accord get three driving modes--the EV (pure electric) mode, Engine Drive mode and the Hybrid Drive mode. In the EV mode itself, the Accord will accelerate to a top speed of 120 kmph.
So, the Hybrid enables a fuel efficiency of 23.8 kmpl, certified by the ARAI. However, a diesel version doesn’t seem to be on the cards. Upon launch, the 2016 Honda Accord will find the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat GTE as its rivals.
