Adityanath slams Akhilesh, Kejriwal; says EVM means 'every vote for Modi'

GORAKHPUR: Slamming AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and SP president Akhilesh Yadav for vociferously alleging misuse of EVMs during elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said those who were elected through the same mechanism are now accusing it of being tampered. Coining a new acronym for EVMs, the 44-year-old leader said, "with their mandate people of Delhi have proved that EVM means 'every vote for Modi". After Punjab Assembly elections, Kejriwal alleged EVM tampering while after debacle in UP elections BSP leader Mayawati, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav had also raised question about the polling machines. The chief minister has also praised PM Narendra Modi for "putting a full stop to the VIP culture in the country". "There has been a transformation in law and order situation in UP and this will continue in the future. We had urged earlier that people who do not respect the law can leave UP else we will deal with them strictly," he said. Akhilesh questions EVMs Raising questions about EVMs, Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said that when petrol can be stolen with the help of a chip, there also were possibilities of misuse of the voting machines used during elections. "When Petrol and electricity and money from ATMs can be stolen with the help of a remote through a chip without having any internet connection, then why shouldn't questions be raised on EVMs. Everyone knows, technology can be misused," the former UP CM said. EC to soon call all party meeting on EVM issue  The Election Commission will soon call a meeting of all political parties to assure them that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) were tampering-proof and secured. "We will soon hold an all party meeting in which they will be told how our EVMs are non-tamperable and secured as per our administrative and technical safeguard system," PTI quoted CEC Nasim Ziaidi as saying. To bring in more transparency and boosting the confidence of people in the electoral process, he said that the commission intends to use Voter- Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in all coming elections .
