'What Is BJP Offering Except For....': Sachin Pilot Hits Out In Poll-Bound Meghalaya

Sachin Pilot asked what is BJP offering except for empty promises for future. Speaking in Shillong, he asked, what did BJP do when they were in power for 8 years in Delhi and 5 years in Meghalaya.

New Delhi: Hitting out at the Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Tuesday asked what is BJP offering except for empty promises for future. Speaking in Shillong, he further asked, what did BJP do when they were in power for 8 years in Delhi and 5 years in Meghalaya.

"What are they (BJP) offering except for empty promises for future? When they were in power for 8 yrs in Delhi and 5 years here what did they do? What happened to your partners that you were sharing power for 5 yrs and are suddenly accusing each other?," Sachin Pilot said as quoted by ANI.

It shows that it's a selfish power game. Who is to say that post-election they won't re-align again. I think even BJP isn't saying no to anybody. This open-ended game of political manoeuvrability & buying & having people crossover - the state has seen enough of that: Sachin Pilot

Continuing his attack on the saffron party, Pilot said that the state has seen enough of open-ended game of political manoeuvrability. "It shows that it's a selfish power game. Who is to say that post-election they won't re-align again. I think even BJP isn't saying no to anybody. This open-ended game of political manoeuvrability & buying & having people crossover - the state has seen enough of that," Pilot said as quoted by ANI.

Pilot exuded confidence on the grand old party and said that the next government will be formed by the Congress party. "So, I think we will do very well & the next Government that will be formed will be a Congress Government & in other states also we are doing very well," Pilot said as quoted by ANI. 

Earlier on Monday, former Meghalaya Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh passed away following a heart attack. Lyngdoh was a United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate from the Sohiong assembly in East Khasi hills. As per ANI, the polls in the state will now be conducted in 59 out of 60 assembly constituencies.

Elections to the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly will be held on February 27 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2. the last date for filing of nomination for the Meghalaya Assembly elections 2023 is February 7. The nominations will be scrutinised on February 8 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 10, 2023. 

In the 2018 Meghalaya Assembly election, Congress emerged as the single largest party with 21 seats. The National People's Party (NPP) won 19 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won only two seats. The United Democratic Party (UDP) managed to win 6 seats. The NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) came to power after getting support from BJP, UDP, and other regional parties.
