West Bengal Elections 2021: Three Injured In Blast At TMC Office Ahead of First Phase Of Polling

The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Hooghly. According to locals, the bomb was kept in the party office in Joypur, which is among the 38 assembly seats voting in the first phase on Saturday.

Ahead of the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly polls, at least three people were on Friday injured in a low-intensity blast at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) office in the Joypur area of Bankura district. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in Hooghly.

According to locals, the bomb was kept in the party office in Joypur, which is among the 30 assembly seats voting in the first phase on Saturday.

Scores of police personnel besides the central forces have been deployed in the area post the untoward incident to maintain law and order as clashes were reported between the TMC and Indian Secular Front (ISF) workers after the blast.

Expressing concern over the present state of affairs ahead of polling, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar said he was pained to witness the violence and added “violations will get duly punished”.

“I am pained at violence taking place. Time for OCs and ICs @WBPolice @KolkataPolice to take all steps and act as per law. Administration and police @MamataOfficial @HomeBengal must maintain political neutrality and show commitment to rule of law. Violations will get duly punished,” he wrote on Twitter.

Voting for the high-voltage West Bengal Assembly elections, which is witnessing a direct confrontation between the TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) this time, will be held in eight phases beginning tomorrow.

The last phase will take place on April 29 and the results will be declared on May 2.
