'Corrupt Should Be Behind Bars': Suvendu Adhikari On Mamata's Claim That Abhishek Banerjee Will Be Arrested

Adhikari made this remark after Banerjee claimed that party General Secretary and nephew Abhishek Banerjee would be arrested by the central agencies before the 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday responded to the allegations leveled by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding her nephew and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Adhikari said that “a corrupt man” should go to jail and questioned why the central agencies were taking so long. Adhikari made this remark after Banerjee claimed that party General Secretary and nephew Abhishek Banerjee would be arrested by the central agencies before the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Adhikari slammed Abhishek Banerjee over his alleged involvement in multiple scams, claiming that if a person is corrupt, he must end in jail.

“A corrupt person should be sent to jail, it is our demand. His name was involved in coal scam, cow smuggling, recruitment scam... He will have to go behind bars, we want to question the agency as to why is it taking so long?”, Adhikar told ANI.

On Monday, CM Banerjee while addressing a rally on the occasion of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day claimed that someone messaged her that Abhishek Banerjee would be arrested before the Lok Sabha election.

Earlier, Adhikari demanded an NIA probe into the explosion at an illegal factory in North 24 Parganas' Duttapukur and suggested the presence of RDX behind the explosion.

The explosion took place when people were working at the factory in Nilgunj's Moshpole within Duttapukur police station limits, around 30 km north of Kolkata. The blast's impact was so intense that over 50 houses in the neighbourhood were partially damaged and body parts of people were found on terraces of several buildings. The police suspected several people were still stuck under the rubble.

Coming down heavily on the TMC government, Adhikari said, "This is not an isolated incident. The entire state is sitting on a powder keg. The chief minister had promised to close these illegal cracker-manufacturing factories, but she is busy protecting the thieves in her government and hosting the Imams instead. She is holding meetings with Muslim preachers."
