Weather Updates: Light Rain In Delhi, More Showers In Gujarat As Cyclone Asna Threat Looms Large — IMD Forecast

Several states across India have been witnessing heavy, incessant rainfall since the last few weeks, and more showers are likely in the coming days. Gujarat has been one of the worst hit states due to heavy rain this monsoon season.

In the visuals shared by news agency ANI on Friday, waterlogging was witnessed in Bhuj in rain-battered Gujarat following heavy downpour in the region.

The IMD on Friday said that heavy to very heavy showers are likely in the state in the coming days.

This comes as cyclone Asna brews over Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat which is expected to emerge over the Arabian Sea on Friday and travel towards the Oman coast.

A national bulletin issued by the IMD said the deep depression over Saurashtra and Kutch is likely to move west-southwestwards and emerge over the northeast Arabian Sea off Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts and intensify into a cyclonic storm on Friday. It will be called Cyclone Asna, a name suggested by Pakistan, when it intensifies into a cyclonic storm.

Heavy Rain Likely In Gujarat Due To Cyclonic Storm

As Gujarat braces for cyclone Asna, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in the state due to a cyclonic storm over the Arabian Sea. A deep depression over Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat could develop into a cyclonic storm over the northeastern Arabian Sea.

There is a possibility of showers and storms in Gujarat. The weather department has issued an orange alert for Surendranagar, Amreli, Gir, and Somnath districts. The storm is expected to move from the Saurashtra-Kutch region of Gujarat towards the coast of Oman.

It is likely to move from the northeastern Arabian Sea towards the west-southwest, heading towards the coast of Oman. The storm will move from Saurashtra and Kutch towards the coast of Oman.

Gujarat CM Conducts Aerial Survey

Meanwhile, the situation in the coastal state improved a little on Thursday as the rains eased, but floodwaters were yet to recede in several areas including Vadodara city following the incessant showers of the last three days, news agency PTI reported, citing officials.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an aerial survey of Kutch, Jamnagar and adjoining Devbhumi Dwarka districts to assess the damage. Barring the coastal areas of Kutch and Devbhumi Dwarka districts, rains subsided during the day, officials said.

In the evening, CM Patel visited Vadodara where floodwaters of the Vishwamitri river had wreaked havoc in the last two days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Patel and took stock of the situation. As many as 26 persons died on August 26 and 27 across the state in rain-related incidents, authorities had said on Wednesday.
