Weather Updates: Delhi Rains Break 13-Year Record, Alert Issued For Three Days In UP

Rain In Delhi: Delhi NCR continues to receive rain for the third consecutive day. While the rain has brought relief from the heat, many areas have been inundated.

New Delhi: Heavy rain continued in Delhi NCR since Friday night. Rain has brought relief to the people from the heat but water has accumulated in many areas. Traffic has also been affected due to waterlogging on the roads. The India Meteorological Department said Delhi recorded a record rainfall of 138.8 mm on Saturday, the highest in the last 14 years within 24 hours in the month of August.

Record rain in Delhi

According to data from the Safardjung Observatory in Delhi, 138.8 mm of rain was recorded till 8.30 am (24 hours duration) on Saturday, the highest rainfall in the month of August since 2007.

The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday which was one degree below normal. The minimum temperature was three degrees Celsius below normal due to rain which was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius. 

It will rain even today.

The Met department has said that the sky may remain cloudy with light rain on Sunday. The maximum temperature in the city is expected to be close to 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature 24 degrees Celsius.

The Met department today issued a yellow alert for Delhi due to the rains. The Met department had issued an orange alert for Delhi on Saturday. Heavy rains in Delhi caused heavy waterlogging and traffic problems at many places including Minto Bridge, Rajghat, Connaught Place and ITO.

Alert issued in UP

Uttar Pradesh has issued a heavy rain alert for 3 days from today. It may rain heavily on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today. Also, a torrential rain alert has been issued for the next three days. 

The Met department has said that lightning is also expected during the rains. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in the eastern and western areas of Uttar Pradesh today. In western districts, very heavy rain is expected at some places.

Weather forecast in the country

The Met department has informed that light to moderate rain may occur in the parts of Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, south-eastern Rajasthan, parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, North Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. 

The Met department has reported that light to moderate rain is likely to occur in Delhi, parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

According to the Met department, light rain is likely to occur in eastern Rajasthan, the rest of Gujarat, coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Odisha, Gangiya West Bengal, parts of Chhattisgarh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
