Weather Update: IMD Predicts Moderate Rainfall In Bengal, Bihar. Strong Winds In UP & Punjab

Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall very likely over West Bengal-Sikkim and Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha on 9th and 10th February, the weather department said.

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its weather forecast, predicted rainfall in several parts of the country, including Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Haryana, Punjab and Western Uttar Pradesh on February 10.

Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall very likely over West Bengal-Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar and Odisha on 9th and 10th February, the weather department said.

The IMD forecast further said strong winds with speed of 25-35 kmph very likely over Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh on 10th and 11th February.

IMD has predicted isolated rainfall in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and East Rajasthan, while scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and will hail over Uttar Pradesh.

The weather department further predicted scattered light to moderate rainfall and light to moderate snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh and fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. 

IMD stated that there is a formation of Western Disturbance as a trough in lower and middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level has been formed. An induced cyclonic circulation lies over West Rajasthan and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.

On Wednesday, light snowfall occurred in the higher reaches and rainfall occurred in the plains of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. As per the India Meteorological Department forecast, partly to generally cloudy weather would persist over the next 24 hours.

An IMD official was quoted in IANS as saying, “Weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy in J&K and Ladakh during the next 24 hours.”
