Weather Update: Rainfall Expected To Bring Relief From Searing Heat At Several Places. Check List Of Cities

New Delhi: Amidst the searing heatwave, a pre-monsoon shower may give some relief to people. As the majority of north Indian states swelter under the high temperatures, some regions may find relief on Wednesday and Thursday as India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts isolated showers of rain varying from light to heavy rainfall.

According to a press release by the IMD, southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal over east & northeast India in lower tropospheric levels may influence fairly widespread rainfall over Northeast India, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next three days with isolated thunderstorms over the region during next two days. As per the Met department, Kolkata is likely to experience heavy rainfall from Wednesday to Sunday. 

It may also lead to isolated heavy rainfall over the Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura o Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, under the influence of the western disturbance, scattered rainfall with isolated thunderstorms is likely over Western Himalayan Region on Wednesday and Thursday. An isolated hailstorm is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Wednesday. In Himachal Pradesh, Shimla is likely to see heavy rainfall until Friday with thunderstorms until Thursday. In Uttarakhand, Dehradun will remain partly cloudy with the possibility of thunderstorms on Friday. 

Isolated light rainfall with duststorms is also very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday. Chandigarh and Pathankot are likely to see rainfall on Wednesday.  

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms likely over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana during the next three days. Chennai is also likely to have heavy rain on Thursday and Friday with a clear sky from Saturday onwards. 

Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Kerala-Mahe on Wednesday and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Thursday is also likely.

Meanwhile, a low-pressure area is likely to form over South Andaman Sea which may lead to heavy rainfall in isolated places over the Nicobar Islands on Wednesday and Thursday and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Andaman Islands on Friday and Saturday.
