'We Are Not Divorced Yet, She Can't Marry...': Anju's Husband In India Files FIR Against Couple In Pak

Arvind Kumar, Anju's spouse in India, stated that they had not yet divorced and hence she cannot marry the man from across the border. The couple has two kids.

The husband of Indian lady Anju, who flew legally to a distant Pakistan town to see her Facebook acquaintance but subsequently married him, has filed a FIR against the pair in Rajasthan's Alwar district, according to authorities, news agency PTI reported. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bhiwadi, Sujit Shankar, the case was registered at the Phoolbagh police station under Indian Penal Code sections 366 (inducing women for marriage), 494 (second marriage without divorce), 500 (defamation), and 506 (criminal Intimidation), as well as provisions of the IT Act.

Arvind Kumar, Anju's spouse in India, stated that they had not yet divorced and hence she cannot marry the man from across the border. The couple has two kids.

"Anju has said she submitted divorce papers in Delhi three years ago but I have not received any summons or notice from the court yet. On papers, she is still my wife. She cannot marry anyone else. The government should get the matter investigated," Anju's husband Arvind Kumar informed reporters in Alwar.

According to senior police authorities in Pakistan's Upper Dir area, Anju married her friend Nasrullah at a court there, and a legal Nikah was completed after the woman converted to Islam.

Kumar has asked the Indian authorities to look into Anju's passport and visa to see if she travelled to Pakistan using forged documents and signatures.

Anju (34) was born in the Uttar Pradesh town of Kailor and raised in the Rajasthan district of Alwar. In 2019, she and Pakistani national Nasrulla (29) became Facebook friends.

Anju's case is similar to that of Seema Ghulam Haider. Seema, a Pakistani mother of four, snuck into India to live with Sachin Meena, a Hindu guy she met while playing PUBG. According to Uttar Pradesh Police, Seema, 30, and Sachin, 22, live in the Rabupura neighbourhood of Greater Noida, near Delhi, where he owns a supply shop.
