“Wanton violence in WB shows no sign of abating. Bomb explosions as this morning outside residence of Member Parliament @ArjunsinghWB is worrisome on law and order. Expect prompt action @WBPolice. As regards his security the issue has been earlier been flagged @MamataOfficial,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, the BJP MP hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government over the incident and said it will save the "real criminals".
“Yesterday, the party made me the in-charge of Bhabanipur assembly constituency. At 6:10 a.m. today, three bombs were thrown at my house. Nowhere in Bengal are we safe. Not even inside the house, not even outside the house,” Singh told ABP News.
“Now, an FIR will be filed, but the way the Bengal Police acts will be the same. The real criminals will be saved. The police will catch any two people. There will be no case diary, no chargesheet,” he added.
Three crude bombs were hurled outside the BJP MP’s Bhatpara residence in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district in the early hours of the day. However, no casualties were reported.
Earlier on Sunday, the TMC officially announced Banerjee as its candidate for the Bhabanipur byelection.
Banerjee has to win this by-poll to retain her CM post. She had contested the assembly elections from Nandigram and lost to her former aide-turned-BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari.
TMC’s Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, who had won from Bhabanipur in the election, stepped down as the MLA, giving his party supremo an opportunity to become a member of the state assembly by contesting the bypoll.
Banerjee has to become a member of the state legislature by November 5.
The bypoll will be held on September 30, along with elections to two seats, Samserganj and Jangipur, in Murshidabad district where polling could not be held during the eight-phase assembly polls earlier this year.
