Violence In MP’s Khargone: 175 People Arrested So Far, Curfew Relaxed From 8 AM To 5 PM
The local administration relaxed the curfew in Khargone for nine hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the second day in a row on Sunday, PTI reported.
New Delhi: At least 175 people have so far been arrested in connection with the violence in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone city during the Ram Navami celebrations earlier this month, an official said on Sunday.
The local administration relaxed the curfew in Khargone for nine hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the second day in a row on Sunday, PTI reported.
In-charge Superintendent of Police Rohit Kashwani, however, said the night curfew will continue.
He added that no untoward incident was reported during the curfew relaxation earlier on Saturday.
Kashwani told reporters that 64 FIRs have so far been registered and 175 people have been arrested in connection with the violence in Khargone earlier on April 10.
The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer said that Mohsin aka Waseem, who was arrested in connection with the firing at Khargone Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary, was presented before a local court on Saturday and sent in three-day police remand.
He added that the accused is being questioned and further details are being collected.
The police official further said search for the other accused is underway in areas near Khargone and other places on the basis of technical evidence.
Choudhary, who sustained a bullet injury in his leg, is currently on leave as he is undergoing treatment.
Curfew was clamped in the city after communal clashes had erupted in Khargone during the Ram Navami celebrations on April 10 during which shops and houses were damaged, vehicles torched and stones hurled.
The local administration has been relaxing the curfew for some hours since April 14.
The curfew relaxation, according to the order of the district administration, will not be applicable to the local agricultural market, petrol pumps and for the sale of kerosene from Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.
The shops selling milk, vegetables and medicines among others are allowed to remain open during the curfew relaxation period, but the religious places have been asked to be kept shut.
