Varun Gandhi Writes Letter To PM. Demands Law For MSP, Action Against Ajay Mishra

Varun Gandhi requested the PM to accept farmers' demand for statutory MSP for their crops. He also demanded action to be initiated against Union Minister Ajay Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

New Delhi: Member of Parliament from Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi wrote a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reported PTI. In the letter posted by Gandhi on Twitter, he requested the PM to accept farmers' demand for statutory Minimum Support Price for their crops. He also demanded action to be initiated against Union Minister Ajay Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Gandhi’s statement came after PM’s announcement to repeal the three farm laws which he made during his address to the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on Friday.

Sharing the letter on Twitter, the MP wrote, “I welcome the announcement of the withdrawal of the 3 #FarmLaws. It is my humble request that the demand for a law on MSP & other issues must also be decided upon immediately, so our farmers can return home after ending their agitation.”

While Gandhi welcomed the announcement he also said that "more than 700 farmer brothers and sisters have been martyred in this movement", as they peacefully protested in extremely difficult and hostile conditions.” He further wrote that if this decision would have been taken earlier, the innocent lives may not have been lost.

Gandhi also wrote about the farmers’ demand for guarantee of MSP for their crops. "This movement will not end without the resolution of this demand and there will be widespread anger amongst them, which will continue to emerge in one form or the other. Therefore, it is very important for the farmers to get the statutory guarantee of MSP for their crops," wrote Gandhi in the letter.

He said that guaranteeing MSP to the farmers will ensure a sizable economic security to the farmers and will also help small and marginal farmers. "My humble request to you is that the government must immediately accept this demand in the interest of our nation," demanded Gandhi.

He also demanded that the MSP should be fixed following the C2+50 percent formula of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices.

Talking on the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, Gandhi termed the incident as a “blemish on our democracy.” Without directly taking Ajay Mishra’s name, Gandhi said, “It is my request to you that appropriately strict action is taken against the Union minister who has been connected to this incident, so that there is a fair enquiry."

He also demanded that Rs 1 crore should be provided as compensation to the families of the farmers who lost their lives during the protests and that all “politically motivated false” FIRs to be quashed.
