Uttarakhand: MeT Dept Warns Heavy Rains, Landslides In Next 48 Hrs; Multiple Roads Blocked

Multiple roads and national highways including Rishikesh-Devprayag, Rishikesh-Tehri and Dehradun-Mussoorie have been closed due to landslides at many places due to heavy rains.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in several places across Uttarakhand over the next 48 hours. Several parts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital, Tehri, and Rishikesh are likely to receive more heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.

Taking a note of heavy rainfall, the Uttarakhand Police have urged people to avoid travelling to the area till the weather becomes normal.

Meanwhile, multiple roads and national highways have blocked due to landslide. As per the latest inputs, Rishikesh-Devprayag, Rishikesh-Tehri and Dehradun-Mussoorie roads have been closed due to landslides at many places due to heavy rains for the last three to four days.

Tehri-Garhwal district authorities reportedly informed that the National Highway 58 has also been closed from Tapovan to Maletha due to heavy rainfall in the area.

As quoted by news agency ANI, a witness of the incident Mohammad Aarif Khan, an electrical engineer, said that the road near Bemunda and Soni village caved in following continuous rainfall in Narendra Nagar town of Tehri Garhwal for three days.

"The vehicles are stuck across both sides of the road. Many places including Bagardhar and Hindolakhal have been closed down. The rain is so heavy that it is very difficult to send machines there as well," Mohammad Aarif Khan added.

Dehradun has been facing incessant rainfall since Monday due to which, the Maldevata-Sahasradhara link road has been submerged in the river for several meters while several vehicles were seen flowing in the flooded areas.

Heavy waterlogging has been reported in many areas after  rains lashed the capital city of Dehradun which flooded the Rispana and Bindal rivers.
