Uttar Pradesh STF Arrests Man With Links To Pakistan's ISI And Terror Groups

The man identified as Kaleem Ahmad sent photographs and interacted with ISI about security-related places in India via WhatsApp using a phone he brought using a fake ID.

The Special Task Force from Uttar Pradesh arrested a man from Shamli district for collecting illegal weapons under criminal conspiracy with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI and terror groups. The STF was reported as saying that by gathering illegal weapons, they were planning to carry out some major acts which could disintegrate the unity, integrity, sovereignty and social harmony of the country and to damage the internal and external security of India. According to IANS, he was arrested by the STF’s Meerut field unit led by ASP Brijesh Kumar Singh on a specific tip-off.

The man identified as Kaleem Ahmad sent photographs and interacted with ISI about security-related places in India via WhatsApp using a phone he brought using a fake ID.

“The accused used to send pictures of security establishments to Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI (Inter Services Intelligence) and militant groups,” STF said in a statement.

According to IANS, 36-year-old Kaleem Ahmad of Gherbukhari Naukuan in Shamli has been booked at Kotwali police station under IPC sections 420 (fraud), 121-A (waging war against the country), 153-A (promoting enmity between two groups on the ground of religion), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

As per the report, Ahmad had returned from Pakistan about five days ago and was planning to "prepare a team here to carry out terror activities,” reported IANS. He stated that he visited his relatives in Pakistan, but couldn’t give details when he was questioned further. It is suspected that he went to Pakistan supposedly on the call of ISI handlers. Ahmad revealed that his ISI handlers had assured to provide him with firearms and ammunition for the same.

An official from the STF said that Kaleem Ahmad is the third eldest of five brothers. One of his elder brothers named Tehseem Ahmad was also reportedly involved in terror activities. The official further added that Tehseem was regularly in touch with a Pakistan-based terrorist Sheikh Khalid Hafiz alias, Dishad Mirza, who was planning to launch an Islamic war to establish Shariat law in the country. Tehseem also helped ISI and spied for them, he sent photographs of the Indian Army’s security installations in Anoopgarh in Rajasthan.
