Uri To Bathinda: Common Factor In All These Military Base Attacks Is Time Of The Strike. See Details

According to a statement by HQ SW Command, the firing took place at around 4:35 am. This is not the first time that an attack on a military base has been made in the early hours of the day. 

Four army personnel of an artillery unit were reported dead after succumbing to gunshot injuries sustained following a firing incident at Bathinda military station in Punjab. After the incident, the area has been cordoned off and a joint investigation with Punjab Police is underway to establish the facts of the case. Army said it was looking at all the aspects to ascertain the cause of the incident including a possible case of involvement of an INSAS rifle along with 28 rounds reported missing two days back. 

The firing incident was reported in the early hours of Wednesday inside Bathinda’s Military Station.

A look at previous attacks on military bases or camps of armed forces in the country shows a trend that most of them took place early in the morning including the Uri Army camp attack and the Pathankot air base attack. 

Here is a list of some incidents of early morning attacks. 

  1. Terrorist attack on the army camp in Kupwara's Panzagam, April 27, 2017:  A terrorist attack on the Army camp in Panzgam of Kupwara which claimed the lives of three Indian Army soldiers took place at 4 in the morning. Two terrorists were also killed in the attack. 
  2. Pathankot air base attack, January 2, 2016: Armed terrorists entered the station air base and the attack took place at 3:30 am. 
  3. Attack on army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Nagrota, November 29, 2016: A major attack by terrorists, impersonating police personnel, on the army camp in J&K's Nagrota took place at around 5:30 am. 3 terrorists were killed while 7 army soldiers were martyred in the attack. 
  4. Terrorist attack on CRPF camp in Bandipora, June 5, 2017: A terrorist attack on the CRPF camp in Sumbal, Bandipora took place at around 3 in the morning, and 4 terrorists were killed in the operation. 
  5. Pargal Army Camp, August 11, 2022: An attempt to infiltrate the base camp in Rajouri was made at around 4 am. 
  6. Uri army camp attack, September 18, 2016: 4 terrorists entered the army camp at 5:30 am.
  7. Sunjwan Army camp terrorist attack, February 10-11, 2018: 3 terrorists were killed and 6 soldiers were martyred in the attack that took place at quarter past four in the morning.
