Uri Attack effect: Russia calls off military exercise with Pakistan

New Delhi: The Russia has called off its joint military exercise with Pakistan after the Uri terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir. On Monday. Russia’s move has come as a big diplomatic gain for India. At international level, India has already decided to isolate Pakistan. Russia confirmed its continued support for the Indian government’s counter terrorism efforts. The country offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished a rapid recovery to all those injured. The move has come just a day after attack by four armed terrorists at an Army camp in Jammu & Kashmir’s Uri district. 18 soldiers of Indian Army martyred in the attack. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan and Russia were scheduled to conduct the ‘Druzhba-2016’ tactical exercises from September 24-October 7, 2016, in Rattu and Cherat. Soon after the Islamabad had confirmed about exercise, the Indian External Affairs Ministry (EAM) had sent a letter to Russia in which India said that Moscow should keep New Delhi’s sensitivity in mind while conducting joint military drills with neighbouring Pakistan.
