Union Home Minister's Elder Sister Passes Away. Shah Cancels Engagements In Gujarat
Amit Shah's elder sister has passed away, leading the Union Home Minister to cancel his engagements in Gujarat.
Amit Shah Sister Death: Union Home Minister Amit Shah's elder sister, Rajeshwariben Shah, passed away during treatment at a Mumbai hospital on Monday (January 15), as reported by news agency PTI, citing a BJP office-bearer.
Amit Shah has cancelled all his scheduled engagements in Gujarat in light of Rajeshwariben Shah's demise, according to a the PTI report.
Rajeshwariben, in her mid-60s, had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital. She breathed her last in the early hours of Monday, the office-bearer confirmed, as reported by PTI.
"Following the death of his ailing sister, Shah has cancelled all his programs for the day. Rajeshwariben's mortal remains have been brought to her residence here this morning, and her last rites will be performed at Thaltej crematorium in the afternoon," the official was quoted as saying by PTI.
Shah, who represents the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, had been in Ahmedabad since Sunday to celebrate Makar Sankranti with BJP supporters.
Scheduled to attend two events on Monday in Banaskantha and Gandhinagar districts, Shah was expected to inaugurate various projects of Banas Dairy at Deodar village in Banaskantha. In Gandhinagar, he was set to inaugurate developmental projects at Rashtriya Raksha University in the afternoon.

Ajay Patel, Chairman of the Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Limited, who attended the Banaskantha event, conveyed that Shah could not be present at the occasion due to the passing of his elder sister.
At the Banas Dairy event, a two-minute silence was observed to pay respects to the deceased.
