9 Injured In Twin Blasts In Jammu, Congress Says Bharat Jodo Yatra Will Continue — Top Points

The blasts occurred on Saturday in the Jammu region injuring several persons.

New Delhi: The Narwal area in Jammu was rocked by twin blasts on Saturday that occurred within a gap of 20 minutes injuring six persons. The explosions come just a few days ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in the country. On the other hand, Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra is also in its final phase and presently is in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua.

Senior officials of the Army reach the spot in Narwal of Jammu where two explosions took place.

  • Two blasts took place after some time difference in the Narwal area of Jammu on Saturday.
  • The two explosions that occurred in Narwal, Jammu, injured a total of nine people. According to hospital officials, all are being treated at the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
  • Informing about the blasts, Mukesh Singh, ADGP Jammu Zone said, "Twin blasts occurred in Narwal area of Jammu, 6 people injured."
  • A dog squad carried out an investigation in the Narwal area of Jammu where the blasts occurred.
  • Speaking on the incident, Shakti Pathak, DIG Jammu said, "Two blasts occurred and we are carrying out the investigation. We will share the facts with you. The blast occurred here in Narwal, and the second blast occurred about 20 minutes after the first", reported ANI.
  • Deputy Mayor of Jammu Baldev Singh Billawaria on Saturday said he has been told that around seven people are injured and some of them are critical in the twin explosions that took place in the Narwal area of the region earlier today.
  • Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha termed the twin blasts in Jammu 'dastardly acts' highlighting the 'desperation and cowardice of those responsible'.
  • The LG announced an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 for those injured in the incident. 
  • A forensics team reached the blast sites to collect samples from Narwal in Jammu as a part of their investigation.
  • Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that Bharat Jodo Yatra will continue as planned in the state adding 'it is their (security personnel) responsibility to take care of such incidents'. "2 weeks before yatra began, I met J&K L-G & all our leaders in J&K are in constant touch with the security personnel. It is their responsibility to take care of such incidents. Bharat Jodo yatra will continue no matter what," he told ANI.
  • Political parties in Kashmir, including the National Conference, on Saturday condemned the twin bomb blasts in Jammu. "I condemn this act unequivocally and hope that it is properly investigated. I express my sympathies with the families of those injured and pray for their speedy and complete recovery," NC president Farooq Abdullah said. 
  • "The twin blasts that took place in Narwal, Jammu, causing injuries to six people is condemnable. The government should identify the culprits and they should be punished," senior vice president, Apni Party, Ghulam Hassan Mir, said on Twitter.
