PM Modi Committed To 'India First' Policy As Trump's 'America First': Gabbard

US Intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard emphasised that "America First" does not mean "America alone" and Prime Minister Modi's "India First" approach aligns with Trump's policy.

US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump's 'America First' policy should not be misunderstood as America alone.

Addressing the Raisina Dialogue in Delhi during her two-and-half-day trip to India, Gabbard said there is "huge opportunity" in expading the India-US relationship.

She further said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump laid out the vision for cementing the overall bilateral ties in their meeting in Washington DC last month, which she termed as "reconnection of two old friends".

The US Intelligence chief said just like Trump's 'America First' policy, PM Modi is committed to the 'India First' approach. It should not be misunderstood that 'America First' means America alone, she said.

Gabbard expressed her confidence that the partnership and friendship between the two countries will continue to grow.

She thanked PM Modi for inviting her to Raisina Dialogue noting that the ties between the two nations have been strong for decades.

Addressing the geopolitical turmoil, Gabbard said President Trump is committed to ensuring peace and security and called on leaders to stand up for interests that affects all.

'Aloha, Namaste Not Just Words Of Greetings'

During her address which she began by greeting the audience with 'Jai Shree Krishna', Gabbard said it is great for her to be back in India.

"It's been too long, but it's always such a wonderful and warm experience knowing the rich history of this country and the vibrant democracy that really serves as the foundation for the special bond that has long existed between our two countries," she said.

She also greeted the audience with 'Aloha' and 'Namaste' saying these are not just words of greeting but have "very deep, spiritual, powerful meaning."

"When we greet each other with 'Aloha' and 'Namaste', what it really means is that I am coming to you and greeting you with respect," she said.
