TMC’s Fight For Tripura Now On Twitter As Party Eyes Victory In State With ‘TMC4Tripura’

Taking to Twitter, TMC’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is not leaving any opportunity to bash the BJP government in Tripura.

Kolkata: Embracing the slogans of “Ebar Tripura”' and “Khela Hobe,” Trinamool Congress is now bracing up for the upcoming state legislative assembly elections in Tripura which is scheduled for 2023.

Claiming a sizeable amount of support base among the Bengali-speaking population of the state, the party is leaving no stone unturned in making use of social media handles like Twitter vehemently attack, criticise and condemn the BJP rule in the state.

Using Twitter as their prima facie cannon for launching attacks against the BJP, the state wing of the party is doing its best to mobilise public support by continually slamming the state’s ruling party, BJP, and its Chief Minister, Biplab Deb.

“Biplab Babu is trembling with fear of Trinamool. Leaders can be bought, but workers are independent. Harassment of workers, arresting PK's team, Trinamool cannot be stopped in Tripura. The fall of BJP in Tripura and the expulsion of the liar Biplab Babu is now just a matter of time. The game will also be in Tripura,” tweet on TMC's Tripura handle read.

Taking to Twitter, TMC’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee is not leaving any opportunity to bash BJP. He wrote “The fear in @BJP4Tripura before even @AITCofficial stepped into the land, is more than evident! They are so rattled by our victory in #Bengal that they've now kept 23 IPAC employees under house arrest. Democracy in this nation dies a thousand deaths under BJP's misrule!”

‘TMC For Tripura’, the official Twitter handle of the party for Tripura, came into being in June 2016. But it gained prominence after TMC’s massive win in the West Bengal Assembly elections, as the party was seen to be expanding its political base for pursuit of national interests.

After Trinamool Congress’s landslide victory in the West Bengal State Assembly elections for a third consecutive time with party supremo Mamata Banerjee returning to the Chief Ministerial chair of the state, TMC has its eyes set on Tripura in anticipation of another victory, ousting the Biplab Deb led BJP government in the state.

In a recent incident, when employees of political strategist Prashant Kishor’s company, IPAC alleged that they were kept under house arrest in Agartala and were not being led to work, TMC Tripura took to its Twitter to launch their attacks at BJP. The handle wrote: “BJP and Tripura CM is scared of Mamata Didi - BJP and Tripura CM is scared of Trinamool Congress - BJP and Tripura CM is scared of Prashant Kishor - BJP and Tripura CM is scared of I-Pac”

The handle also retweeted Abhishek Banerjee’s tweets over the matter and posted the arrival of Banerjee and TMC-sent delegation of Bratya Basu, Ritabrata Banerjee and Moloy Ghatak to investigate on the issue.

Previously in multiple tweets, TMC has claimed that a hefty number of BJP workers and leaders are quitting the saffron camp and joining the party to stand against the former’s ‘misrule’ in the state.

“People are excited to join TMC and fight against the misrule of BJP government in Tripura,” a tweet stated.

From Bagbasa to Raima Valley, the handle has posted pictures and video content of workers hoisting the TMC flags in different parts of the state as a means of displaying increasing popularity of the party in the state.

21st July, celebrated as Shaheed Diwas or Martyr’s Day by the TMC, is considered a hallmark day for the party. For the second year in the pandemic, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s speech was delivered virtually. However the preparations taken by the party were in full swing in Tripura as depicted from the tweets uploaded on the handle. From printing of flex and banners, to giant screens and banners being put up in various places, the tweets were evocative of the spirit of the party.

When 100 TMC supporters, who had assembled to attend the virtual broadcasting of the event were arrested by Tripura Police, the handle tweeted in protest saying, “Why is @BjpBiplab scared of TMC? We will fight till the end.”

Following its victory in Bengal, when senior TMC heavyweights like Subrata Bakshi, Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra and ex-Mayor Sovan Chatterjee were arrested for CBI enquiry into the Narada scam, TMC Tripura had tweeted in condemnation of the “undemocratic” arrest and questioned why political turncoats like Suvendu Adhikary and Mukul Ray were left out.

“Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress strongly condemns the undemocratic arrest of TMC leaders by CBI in Bengal. Why are turncoats Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari not summoned by CBI?” the tweet read.

Making sharp attacks at the Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar, TMC Tripura had commented that Dhankar “speaks, tweets and act like a BJP Karyakarta.'' When Dhankar had tweeted about the law and order situation in Bengal, TMC Tripura had called him a “sold out governor” who must be “held responsible for the situation amid the pandemic.”
