BRS MLCs Turn Up At Telangana Council With Miniature Scooty In Fresh Protest Against Congress Govt. Here's Why

Carrying miniature scooty, BRS MLCs demanded that Telangana government implement its pre-election promise of providing electric scooty to every girl student aged 18 and above.

In a strong display of opposition, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLCs, led by K Kavitha, staged a protest inside Telangana Legislative Council on Tuesday with miniature scooty to highlight the unfulfilled promise of providing electric scooty to girl students.

The protest comes a day after the party MLCs protested with the demand for a minimum support price (MSP) for chili farmers.

Scooty Protest

Carrying miniature scooty miniature, BRS MLCs demanded that the government implement its pre-election promise of providing electric scooty to every girl student aged 18 and above. Earlier, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had assured students that this initiative would be a top priority if the party came to power.

However, the protest comes months after Congress-led government reportedly failed to implement the scheme. Last month, paramedical college students staged a protest with placards reading, “Priyanka ji, where is my scooty?” The BRS has now escalated the demand accusing the government of breaking its commitments to the youth.

Chili Farmers' Protest

On Monday, the BRS MLCs held another protest in support of chilli farmers. The MLCs wore garlands made of red chilies to highlight the struggles of Telangana’s chili farmers. They pointed out that chili cultivation in the state has drastically declined, shrinking from 4 lakh acres last season to 2.4 lakh acres this season due to plummeting prices and lack of government support, as per a report on ANI.

The BRS has demanded a minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 25,000 per quintal for chili farmers and procurement of chili through government agencies like Nafed and Markfed.
