A 65-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. This incident marks the second fatal elephant attack in the region within two months, according to forest officials on Wednesday.
The victim, Madevappa, a resident of Kaddatti Tribal Village within STR, had went to the forest with his three friends to collect faggots. While the others returned, Madevappa went towards Pasuveswarar temple area and did not return home by noon, as per a report on PTI.

A joint team of police and forest personnel recovered the body and shifted it to the Government Hospital in Sathyamangalam for post-mortem. The authorities registered a case and investigated the incident.
This incident follows a series of elephant attacks in the region. In November 2024, a 55-year-old farmer from Guthiyalathur village, was killed by a wild elephant in Kadambur.
According to the forest department, Maaran had been staying in his maize field at night to guard against wild boar raids. Around 10:30 p.m., he woke up upon hearing noises and was confronted by a wild elephant that had strayed into his field. However, Maaran was caught by the elephant, flung to the ground, and fatally trampled despite his attempt to flee.
In another incident on July 10, 2024, a 44-year-old man, Kanagaraj, was killed in Bhavanisagar, Erode. Kanagaraj, a resident of Dhooram Mokkai in Thoppampalayam village, was sleeping inside his hut when a wild elephant entered the area and trampled him to death.
