The child’s parents, Palanivel, a contract worker at an e-Seva center in Villupuram, and Sivasankarai, along with relatives, alleged foul play in the girl’s death.
The Vikravandi police on Saturday arrested three individuals, including the Correspondent and Principal of a private school, after the death of a four-year-old girl who fell into septic tank on the school premises. The incident occurred on Friday during lunchtime.
The arrested individuals were identified as the school's Correspondent Emilda, Principal Dominique Mary and the girl's class teacher Angel, as per a report on The Hindu.
According to the police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the child, while playing during her lunch break, went into an area of the school where the septic tank was located. The tank, covered with a rusted lid, is suspected to have given way when the girl stepped on it. In the fall, she reportedly drowned in the tank.
The teacher later noticed her absence and reportedly looked out for the girl. Following this, some of the students informed the teacher that they saw the girl head towards the place where the septic tank was located, reported Times Of India. Eventually, the school staff found the girl in the tank and rushed her to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Mundiyampakkam, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The child’s parents, Palanivel, a contract worker at an e-Seva center in Villupuram, and Sivasankarai, along with relatives, alleged foul play in the girl’s death, as per the report. They raised questions about the circumstances, including how the child accessed the fenced area and why her uniform was reportedly not wet.
The angry residents and relatives staged a road blockade, demanding a thorough investigation and accountability for the negligence that led to the tragedy. The agitators were pacified after police assured them of a detailed probe and strict action against those responsible.
