ECI Recognises VCK, NTK As State Parties In Tamil Nadu, Allots 'Pot' Symbol For Thiruma's Party
On the other hand, Naam Tamilar Katchi which has also been recognised as a state party has been requested to propose a preferred symbol from the list of available symbols.
The Election Commission of India recognised Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) as a state party in Tamil Nadu. The ECI also reserved the 'pot' symbol for VCK but requested NTK to propose a symbol of preference from ECI list.
In a letter to VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, ECI said, "I am directed to state that on the basis of review of poll performance of Vidathalai Chiruthaigal Katchi in the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024, it has been found that the said Viduthalai Chinthaigal Katchi has fulfilled the conditions laid down in Para 6A of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, for recognition as a State Party in the State of Tamil Nadu."
"Further, it is also informed that in view of the party's request vide its letter dated 27.06.2024, the symbol "Pot" has been reserved for the Party in the state of Tamil Nadu. Notification in this regard will be issued in due course," the letter said.

Reacting to the development, Tamil Nadu CM and DMK chief MK Stalin said, "I am happy to know that the Election Commission has officially declared the party as a recognized state party."
He lauded it as a recognition for the hard work of his 'brother' Thirumavalavan. DMK and VCK are alliance partners in Tamil Nadu.
On the other hand, NTK which has also been recognised as a state party has been requested to propose a preferred symbol from the list of available symbols. In a letter to NTK chief, ECI said, "As per the various representations received in the Commission, it is observed that you had sought two different symbols ie. 'Farmer ploughing land" and "Tiger". Both the symbols could not be allotted to your party since the symbols furnished by you are either having resemblance with the already reserved symbol or depicting an animal."
Therefore, ECI added, "It is advised to propose a symbol preference from the list of free symbols available on the Commission's website or propose three new symbols (along with the design and drawing of the symbol) for the consideration of the Commission."
