CBI arrests Mamata's close aide Sudip Bandyopadhyay in Rose Valley chit fund scam
KOLKATA: Close aide of Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning, was arrested by the probe agency on Tuesday.
According to CBI sources, this was the Trinamol Lok Sabha leader's third summon for interrogation in relation with his alleged association with the alleged Rose Valley Chit Fund Scam.
TMC workers protested in front of probe agency's regional office here after Bandyopadhyay was arrested
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee called for an emergency meeting on Bandyopadhyay's arrest saying PM Modi may arrest "all of us" but our protest will continue.
When he arrived for interrogation, Bandyopadhyay had told reporters, "I said I will come to face CBI interrogation to know what is against me".
He also alleged political vendetta against him and the Trinamool Congress party by the NDA-ruled Central government.
Bandyopadhyay, who was summoned twice in December last year by the CBI, skipped the meeting stating his engagement at the parliamentary session.
The agency that is investigating the ponzi scheme scam has already interrogated another Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Paul for his alleged involvement in the case.
Paul was arrested on December 30 and later shifted to Bhubaneswar for further interrogation.
Rose Valley scam, which was also being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, encompasses a larger amount of money swindling as compared to the Saradha case.
