Sting Operation: Adulterated Khoya: Why you must think ‘twice’ before you buy sweets this Diwali

New Delhi: After ABP News carried out a sting operation regarding adulterated 'khoya' being sold across the markets in India, the cops have now pulled up their socks and are raiding people who process adulterated 'khoya'.  With Diwali around the corner, the whole country is covered in the blanket of festivities. The markets can be seen all lit up and flooded with gifts and sweets. While observing the preparations ahead of festival of lights closely, ABP News came across a very shocking fact. Something that would make you think a hundred times before picking your favourite barfi or gulab jamun. ABP News reached out to the Mori Gate market- the biggest khoya market of Delhi. The manager of the market blatantly denied the speculation of adulterated khoya (the main ingredient used for making sweets), which is normally made using milk; and said “All the varieties of Khoya that he had were made from pure milk”. After deepening the investigation, ABP News reached Hathras, Uttar Pradesh; where the Khoya is prepared. On further investigation, it was that a special variety of Khoya, which looks just like the normal (milk made) khoya is out in the market. This kind is prepared using a ‘powder’ and ‘refined oil’.This powder is prepared with chemicals in the factories. On speaking to the worker at one of these khoya making factories, it was found that “the khoya made out of the chemicals is not sticky and smooth like the normal milk khoya, therefore, some amount of oil is added to it to make it sticky”. The revelations that came forth after the sting operation are alarming. The sweet we are feeding our kids, parents and friends could be nothing but mere chemicals.
