New Delhi: Without naming the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday targeted the right-wing outfit by saying "we must not forget that some organizations opposed Quit India Movement, such organisations have no role in freedom struggle."

She said in the current environment, there are clouds of hatred and political vendetta hovering over the society. The scope of a dialogue has reduced in the public space.
Describing the role of Congress leaders in the freedom struggle ,Sonia said, "Pandit Nehru spent several years in jail, many Congress workers died in jail."
"A lot of atrocities were committed on the protesters, but no one stepped back," she said.
Reacting to Sonia's comments, noted RSS thinker Rakesh Sinha said the Congress President must have also forgotten the valiant efforts of leaders like Subhash Chandra Bose. "RSS actively supported the freedom struggle despite having ideological differences with the Congress. The Sangh never advocated the two-nation theory."
Earleir PM Narendra Modi said the Quit India movement marked the rise of a new leadership. They supported Mahatma Gandhi during the movement.
"People followed the clarion call of Mahatma Gandhi of 'Do or Die'," he said.
