Some Trying To Tarnish Our Image On Global Stage: PM Modi's Swipe At Rahul Gandhi

PM Modi said there are some people who keep trying to sully the image of the country on a global stage, but the attempts are defeated as the world is waking up to and acknowledging India’s potential.

New Delhi: In a veiled dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government has restored the pride of the country and has taken it to new heights. However, there are some people who keep trying to sully the image of the country on a global stage, but the attempts are defeated as the world is waking up to and acknowledging India’s potential, PM Modi added.

“We've taken India's reputation to greater heights but there are some people who are trying to tarnish the image of our country in the world but today the world's trust in India is increasing,” PM Modi said in his reply to Opposition’s no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi, during his visits to the UK earlier this year, had said, “the institutional framework” for a democracy, parliament, a free press, the judiciary these are all “under attack”. “We are facing an attack on the basic structure of Indian democracy,” the Congress leader told the audience at Cambridge University where he was invited for a lecture.

Taking further potshots at the Opposition, PM Modi said the no-confidence motion was not a floor test for the government. “No-confidence motion has always proved to be lucky for us. This one will also ensure we will return with record-breaking mandate,” PM Modi said.

"Through their conduct, a few Opposition parties have proven that for them, their party is above the nation. I think you don't care about the poor but the hunger is for power," PM Modi added.
