Sisodia Calls For Changes In National Education Policy 2020, Says 'Huge Gap' In Scheme

Speaking at the event organised by the Delhi Teachers University, Sisodia said there is a "huge gap" in NEP 2020 and it "cannot be implemented immediately."

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Saturday expressed unhappiness over the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 and spoke of changes required in the scheme. While speaking at a programme organised by the Delhi Teachers University in the national capital, Sisodia said education-related policies should be given a 360-degree view, including teacher training, reported news agency PTI.

“Changes are needed in NEP 2020. There are certain dots that need to be connected in this policy. It is also the vision of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal that education-related policies are given a 360-degree view, and all aspects including teacher training should be included in it,” the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister was quoted as saying by PTI.

Speaking further, Sisodia said there is a "huge gap" in NEP 2020 and it "cannot be implemented immediately."

“If we decide to implement NEP in Delhi, who will teach the students of classes 9 to 12? What will be the qualification of those teachers? Nothing has been discussed about that yet. There is so much gap in the policy,” said Sisodia at the meeting organised to discuss the National Education Policy, 2020.

He, however, praised his government- Aam Aadmi Party - in Delhi for providing good facilities to teachers in order to train them well.

“Our government is a part of the teacher training university, and we have provided all possible facilities for teachers to be well-trained. The teaching profession is highly respected but unfortunately not encouraged in the society,” the deputy chief minister was quoted as saying by PTI.

He added that there was a “vast difference” in drafting a policy and implementing it.

Earlier on Monday, September 8, Manish Sisodia paid a surprise visit to a government school in Delhi where he said Students should be inculcated with an entrepreneurial mindset from the school level so that they become "job providers" instead of "job seekers"
