New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairman Waseem Rizwi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a permanent shutdown of primary level 'Madarasas' across the country claiming that they tend to spread ISIS ideology to influence the students negatively. He said that if the Madarasas are not closed, then within 15 years, more than half of the Muslim population in India will turn into ISIS supporters. He wrote in the letter that it has been observed that children are targeted across the world for starting any kind of mission and ISIS is the most dangerous terror outfit in the world which is trying to increase its hold in countries with Muslim population. In Kashmir, a large number of ISIS supporters can be seen out in the open. At a very large scale, the Madarasas in the country are being fed with financial aid to cut off the students from other religions and are being drifted from normal education in order to harbor an extremist ideology in them in the name of Islam, he said. In the letter, Rizwi also suggested that students should be provided with an option of getting enrolled in Madarasas only after high school, if a student wants to pursue religious studies. He emphasized that the provision of Madarasas after high school is important to stop the brainwash of the children at a tender age that the ISIS is seeking to achieve with the help of such educational institutions. He asserted that this measure would enable children to attain normal education till high school which will help them to interact with people of other religions and will give an opportunity to understand them better. The right to make a decision on whether to pursue further studies in Madarasa or not, should lie with the students.
