Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati Passes Away At 99, PM Modi Expresses Condolences

The seer died of a minor heart attack and breathed his last at Shridham Jhoteshwar Ashram District at 3.30 pm.

New Delhi: Dwarkapeeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati passed away at the age of 99 in Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. According to a report by news agency ANI, the seer died of a minor heart attack and breathed his last at Shridham Jhoteshwar Ashram District at 3.30 pm.

His funeral will take place on Monday, as per reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his condolences on the demise of the religious leader. He wrote, "Deeply saddened by the demise of Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sharda Peeth. My condolences to his followers in this time of grief."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing his grief, tweeted, "Received the sad news of the demise of Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati ji of Dwarka Sharda Peeth. His work dedicated to the propagation of Sanatan culture and religion will always be remembered. I express my condolences to his followers. God bless the departed soul. peace."

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also expressed her condolences.

Born in September 2nd, 1924, Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati became the Shankaracharya of Dwarka Sharada Peetham in Dwaraka, Gujarat and the Jyotir Math in Badrinath in the year 1982.
