Schools Summer Vacation 2022: Delhi Schools To Remain Open Till June 18

Delhi Parents Association (DPA) wrote to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, NHRC and the NCPCR demanding that the summer vacation be declared in the city's schools immediately in view of the heat.

New Delhi: The summer vacations for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools are about to begin. The vacations for class 10 will start after the end of Term II examinations, based on the dates sheet it is from May 24, 2022. Meanwhile, classes 1-9 and class 11 are expected to close for summer vacations from June 1, 2022.

Though this could change based on the state government’s directions and can be early or late owing to the severe heatwave and learning loss caused due to Covid-19, News9 reported. The government of Delhi has decided to postpone the summer vacation to June 18, due to the deficit of learning caused by the closure of schools in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As a response, Delhi Parents Association (DPA) on Monday wrote to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) demanding that the summer vacation be declared in the city's schools immediately in view of the deadly scorching heat, according to PTI.

"It is getting so hot in Delhi after 72 years. Yesterday, on 15 May 2022, the temperature in many areas of Delhi reached almost 50 degrees Celsius. While some safety rules and suggestions were also issued by the Union Ministry of Education to protect the children, even the neighbouring states changed the school timings. But no such step was taken by the Delhi government. In the guidelines issued by the central government, it has been made clear that it is not safe for children to come out between 12-3 pm," DPA president Aparajita Gautam said in the letter.
