Satyendra Jain Says, 'Community Spread Of Coronavirus In Delhi', Covid Tally Breaches 2 Lakh Mark In The Capital

The Delhi Health Minister said that as the number of coronavirus cases in the capital is on a massive rise, centre should admit that the capital is facing community spread.

Coronavirus in India: As India is witnessing a daily spike of nearly 1 lakh Covid cases, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said on Saturday that he feels community spread of coronavirus is happening in the national capital. Satyendar Jain also said that the community spread of coronavirus in Delhi should have been admitted by now. Also Read|Coronavirus Vaccine: 3 Candidates In Advanced Stage Of Clinical Trials, Says Health Minister Harsh Vardhan The Delhi Health Minister said that only the Central government or the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can comment on the community spread of coronavirus in Delhi. “When people in such large numbers are getting infected in Delhi and other parts of the country, it should've been admitted that there is community spread... but only ICMR or Central govt can comment on this," Jain said at a press briefing. Satyendra Jain also said the doubling rate in Delhi is about 40 days. India's Covid tally crosses 53 Lakh mark Delhi's coronavirus tally breached the 2.38 lakh mark with 4,127 fresh cases while the death count mounted to 4,907 on Friday, authorities said. Thirty fresh fatalities were recorded in the last 24 hours. The coronavirus cases in India have crossed 53 lakh mark with the country reporting over 90,000 cases daily for the past few days. The number of rapid-antigen tests conducted on Thursday stood at 49,834, while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT test figures were 11,203, in all adding to 61,037 Covid-19 tests, according to the health bulletin issued by the Delhi government. With 4,432 fresh coronavirus cases, Delhi's coronavirus caseload went over 2.34 lakh on Thursday while the death toll reached 4,877 with 38 fresh fatalities. On Wednesday, the national capital had registered a record single-day spike of 4,473 coronavirus cases, taking the city's infection tally to over 2.30 lakh while 33 more deaths were reported. In July, AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria had said that there is not “much evidence” to prove that there is community transmission of COVID-19 happening at the national level. He, however, asserted that there are hotspots in cities where there is a spike in the number of coronavirus cases and it is very likely that local community transmission in those areas is happening. “There is not much evidence that there is community transmission happening at the national level.
