The Delhi Health Minister said that only the Central government or the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can comment on the community spread of coronavirus in Delhi.
“When people in such large numbers are getting infected in Delhi and other parts of the country, it should've been admitted that there is community spread... but only ICMR or Central govt can comment on this," Jain said at a press briefing.
Satyendra Jain also said the doubling rate in Delhi is about 40 days. India's Covid tally crosses 53 Lakh mark Delhi's coronavirus tally breached the 2.38 lakh mark with 4,127 fresh cases while the death count mounted to 4,907 on Friday, authorities said. The number of rapid-antigen tests conducted on Thursday stood at 49,834, while the RT-PCR, CBNAAT and True NAAT test figures were 11,203, in all adding to 61,037 Covid-19 tests, according to the health bulletin issued by the Delhi government. On Wednesday, the national capital had registered a record single-day spike of 4,473 coronavirus cases, taking the city's infection tally to over 2.30 lakh while 33 more deaths were reported. In July, AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria had said that there is not “much evidence” to prove that there is community transmission of COVID-19 happening at the national level. He, however, asserted that there are hotspots in cities where there is a spike in the number of coronavirus cases and it is very likely that local community transmission in those areas is happening. “There is not much evidence that there is community transmission happening at the national level. But there are hotspots, even in cities where there is a spike of cases and it very likely that local community transmission in those areas is happening,” he had said at a press conference.#WATCH: "When people in such large numbers are getting infected in Delhi and other parts of the country, it should've been admitted that there is community spread... but only ICMR or Central govt can comment on this," says Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain pic.twitter.com/XSqIDYww9c
