Row Over Maha Governor's Remarks On Shivaji Maharaj, Koshyari Leaves Assembly Midway Amid Sloganeering | WATCH

This came as the Maha Vikas Aghadi MLAs raised slogans and protested against the Governor in the House for his comments.

New Delhi: Amid the growing chorus from the Maratha community for his resignation over comments ‘insulting’ Shivaji Maharaj, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Thursday left from the state assembly leaving his speech midway on the first day of the session.

This came as the Maha Vikas Aghadi MLAs raised slogans and protested against the Governor in the House for his comments.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Sanjay Daund did a ‘sheershasan’ in protest against the Governor’s remarks, ANI reported.

Expressing her ire over the Governor’s remarks, Shiv Sena MLA Manisha Kayande alleged the former is hand in glove with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.

“What reference is he (Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari) making? He need not have said it,” Kayande said, ANI reported.

“I think he is hand in glove with the BJP and they raised this controversy in view of the commencement of the session,” she added.

Earlier on Sunday, the Maharashtra Governor reportedly said that Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would have been nothing without his guru Samarth Ramdas.

“Several rajas, maharajas took birth on this land. But who would have asked about Chandragupta had there not been Chanakya? Who would have asked about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had there not been Samarth (Sant Ramdas),” Koshyari reportedly said at an event organized by the Samarth Sahitya Parshad in Aurangabad.

“I am not attempting to lower the personality of Chandragupta and Shivaji Maharaj. Like a mother who plays a key role in shaping her child. Similarly, the role of guru (teacher) has a big place in our society,” he added while underlining the role of the guru.
