Rahul Gandhi’s Father Went On Leave During 1971 War With Pak: BJP's Counter As Congress Questions Evacuation Plans
Malviya said no country has undertaken evacuation in Ukraine on the scale India has post the Russian aggression.
New Delhi: Launching a vitriolic attack on Rahul Gandhi for questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government with regard to the evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya on Thursday said the Congress leader’s father went on leave during the 1971 war with Pakistan.
Malviya said no country has undertaken evacuation in Ukraine on the scale India has post the Russian aggression.
“No country has undertaken evacuation in Ukraine on the scale India has. Yet, Rahul Gandhi, whose father, an AI pilot, went on leave during the 1971 war with Pak, then in 1977, when Indira lost power, the family hid in the Italian Embassy, is questioning us on securing Indians!” he tweeted.
The BJP leader’s outburst comes as Gandhi earlier on Wednesday asked the Central government to disclose how many students have been evacuated and how many are still stranded in Ukraine.

The Congress leader also demanded that the ruling dispensation must spell out its clear strategy and communication to the families of those involved.
“To avert further tragedy, GOI must share: 1. How many students have been evacuated. 2. How many are still stranded in Ukraine. 3. Region-wise detailed evacuation plan. We owe a clear strategy & communication to the families involved,” Gandhi wrote on the micro-blogging platform.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone on the Ukraine conflict.
“The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck. They discussed the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals from the conflict areas,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said in a statement.
The Central government has intensified evacuation of stranded Indians from Ukraine.
