No Rain Prediction As Heatwave Scorches Delhi, But Relief Predicted For These States — Check Details
In several states, especially in the Northeast and East, the IMD said there's a possibility of a change in weather with rain at isolated areas.
After days of intense heat the heatwave conditions are likely to subside over the Gangetic West, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. It said the maximum temperature is likely to fall by up to 5 degrees Celsius due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over central Uttar Pradesh and moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.
“Light isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim and Odisha during next 5 days. Isolated hailstorm is also likely over Odisha on 22nd & 23rd and over Bihar on 24th April, 2023”, IMD said.
In Jharkhand, the highest temperature was recorded in Daltonganj at 40 degrees Celsius. In Jamshedpur, the mercury settled at 36.5 degrees Celsius.
"Jharkhand is likely to enjoy the respite from severe heat conditions till April 25. From April 26, the mercury will again rise, and many parts of the state might experience heatwave conditions,” a regional meteorological centre said as per PTI.
The IMD forecast rain and thunderstorms in several states of eastern, northeastern states of India, bringing respite from severe heatwave conditions.
"Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over the region during next 2 days," IMD said.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya on April 22.
Northwest and West India are not expected to see any significant change in the next two to three days, according to the IMD.
For Delhi, the weather office forecast partly cloudy skies for Saturday with a maximum temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius. Despite its forecast for light rain on Friday, no rain was recorded in the city.
Parts of the national capital received light rains on Thursday evening, bringing some relief from the heatwave conditions. For the next five days, the IMD has forecast dry weather, with mainly clear skies. Isolated dust storms, thunderstorms with light rain may occur over Punjab.
Kerala, Tamil Nadu, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and parts of Karnataka are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning, the weather office said.
