'Ready To Hang Nirbhaya Case Convicts': UP 'Hangman' After Delhi Court Issues Death Warrants
Earlier in the day, a Delhi court issued death warrants against all four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case with the convicts to be hanged on January 22 at 7 am sharp in Tihar Jail.
New Delhi: Pawan Jallad, the man most likely to hang all four convicts of the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, said he is ready to hang all four accused once he gets a go from jail authorities. Earlier in the day, a Delhi court issued death warrants against all four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case with the convicts to be hanged on January 22 at 7 am sharp in Tihar Jail.
Soon after the judgement by delivered by the court, Tihar jail administration started initial preparations of hanging the convicts and is most likely to reach out to Uttar Pradesh prisons to seek service of the hangman, who hails from Meerut.
Speaking to reporters after court's order, Pawan said, "I am ready to hang the 4 convicts. Nobody from jail admin has yet contacted me. If I receive the order, I will definitely go. It will really give a great sigh of relief to me, to Nirbhaya's parents and to everyone."
Pawan is the third generation hangman of his family with his grandfather being the one who had carried out the hanging of the two men involved in the assassination of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
According to reports, the Director General (DG) of Prisons, Tihar jail has called a meeting to decided the executioner who will hang all four convicts in the case. The four convicts in the case are Pawan Gupta, Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma and Akshay Thakur. The convicts' lawyers, however, have said that they will move a curative petition in the Supreme Court within a day or two. The court has however allowed the convicts to go for all possible legal recourse including mercy petitions to the President. Four of the convicts were sentenced to death by a trial court in September 2013, and the verdict was confirmed by the Delhi High Court in March 2014 and upheld by the Supreme Court in May 2017 which also dismissed their review petitions. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's husband Robert Vadra wrote on Facebook "After 7 long years, India's daughter gets JUSTICE. This will be an exemplary punishment & will empower women of our nation. I have always maintained that I stand with women in their causes & will fight for them. I thank the Indian judiciary for this verdict." Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia on Tuesday welcomed the Nirbhaya verdict, saying it will act as a deterrent to such heinous crimes. Kejriwal also said the verdict will be a lesson for all those who mistreat women. A 23-year-old woman was brutally gangraped and tortured on December 16, 2012, which led to her death. Six accused were arrested and charged with sexual assault and murder. One of the accused was a minor and appeared before a juvenile justice court, while another accused committed suicide in Tihar Jail.2012 Delhi gang-rape case verdict: Pawan, the hangman from Meerut says,"I'm ready to hang the 4 convicts.
