Ram Temple: Nirmohi Akhada accuses VHP of financial scam over funds collected for building mandir

The boiling controversy over the Ram temple issue seems far from over as the Nirmohi Akhada Sarpanch on Wednesday plunged into the sensitive matter accusing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of alleged financial misappropriations to tune of Rs 1,400 crores over funds collected to build Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

New Delhi: The boiling controversy over the Ram temple issue seems far from over as the Nirmohi Akhada Sarpanch on Wednesday plunged into the sensitive matter accusing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of alleged financial misappropriations to tune of Rs 1,400 crores over funds collected to build the Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The Akhada also questioned the Modi government's intentions over its latest plea filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, where it has sought permission from the apex court to the return the 'excess land' from the 67.703  acres which it acquired in 1993. The Akhada has also cast apprehensions over  BJP affiliate VHP's role in the construction of the Ram temple. The highly sensitive and controversial Ram Temple dispute issue took another dramatic turn when the central government asked the Supreme Court on Tuesday to allow it to return “excess/superfluous land” from the 67.703 acres it acquired in Ayodhya in 1991 to the “original owners”, which includes the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas. The plea filed by the Union government has said that the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas (a trust to promote construction of Ram Temple) had sought return of excess land acquired in 1993 to original owners. Earlier, the apex court had ordered that the status quo be maintained with regard to the acquired 67 acre of land around the disputed site. The central government in 1993 had acquired 67 acre land around the disputed site. It is notable that fourteen appeals have been filed in the apex court till date against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgement, delivered in four civil suits, that the 2.77-acre land be partitioned equally among three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla. The Supreme Court had on Sunday cancelled the hearing scheduled for Tuesday in the title dispute case due to non-availability of Justice S A Bobde, one of the five judges of the Constitution bench.
