While addressing a public meeting, PM Modi urged the crowd to turn on the flashlights of the mobile phones as a mark of respect to Lord Ram. "Even if it's broad daylight, we can participate in Lord Ram's Surya Tilak by shining the light from our cellphones," he said while urging the crowd to chant "Jai Shree Ram" with him.
The 'Surya Tilak' ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol at the Ayodhya Ram temple was held at noon. It involved the placement of an apparatus of lenses and mirrors at certain angles to illuminate the forehead of the idol at exactly noon. The ceremony lasted 2.5 to 3 minutes as temple priests at the Ayodhya Ram mandir chanted prayers and conducted Lord Ram's aarti. The 'Surya Tilak' was around 58 mm in diameter.
