Fresh Encounter Erupts In J&K's Rajouri, Second Suspected Terrorist Killed

Another terrorist has been shot on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district in an encounter after security forces had widened their cordon and search operation.

Another terrorist was killed after a fresh encounter erupted on Wednesday after security forces had widened their cordon and search operation to flush out any terrorists hiding in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district. This comes after Tuesday evening’s shooting which killed a suspected Pakistani terrorist in the remote Narla village in the district. An Army personnel and a six-year-old female Labrador of the Army's dog unit, also died while three security personnel were injured in the shootout.

"The second terrorist has been gunned down in the ongoing encounter in Narla area of Rajouri," said Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Jammu Zone), Jammu Mukesh Singh on Wednesday.

He said that the fresh encounter erupted when security forces established contact with the terrorists, adding that the firing was underway between both sides.

Though the weather conditions were poor, security forces cordoned off 75 kilometres from Rajouri town and continued the search throughout the night. Intermittent firing was reported during the night but there were no reports of any fresh casualties, PTI reported.

It all began on Monday night when security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the forested Patrada area. They had noticed suspicious movement after which they fired a few rounds at two people.

However, both the suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness and the thick foliage. They left behind a rucksack and some clothes and other articles that were recovered by the search parties.

Encounter In Anantnag's Gadool

Meanwhile, an encounter started in a forested area in Kokernag of Anantnag in Kashmir. The firing began when security forces were conducting searches in the Gadool hamlet acting on specific information they received about the presence of terrorists in the area. There are around three terrorists trapped in the area, according to sources.

Two security personnel were wounded and have been immediately moved to a hospital nearby.
