Rajinikanth to enter politics, float his own party?

NEW DELHI: Ending guessing game, Tamil superstar Rajinikanth has decided to float his own political party, reports said on Friday. The megastar's party, for which no name been announced yet, will be on board with the NDA. Rajinikanth, a known admirer of PM Modi, was one among the three people that the prime minister had called upon during his last visit to the state. Rajinikanth had on Thursday provided hints of taking the political plunge, saying he is discussing the prospects and would make an announcement once he finalises it. "I have not denied it. We are discussing and yet to take a decision. Once I take a decision I will inform you", the actor had said in response to a question regarding his meeting with the political leaders. The actor, who met his fans in May, had asked them to "prepare for war" hinting that he might consider entering politics. "When a war comes, they will come to the rescue of their motherland. I have a profession, work, duty and so do you. Go to your places, do your duty, take care of your vocation. Let us face the war when it comes," he had said. He had recently said he has no political aspirations but will consider taking the path if it's God's will. He had also said if he enters politics, he will be truthful and won't entertain people who want to make money. Last week, Rajinikanth had met a delegation of 16 farmers, led by P Ayyakannu and supported their request to interlink rivers. The 66-year-old actor told them that their request would be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and had pledged Rs one crore for the same. The 66-year-old star had described his brief stint in politics two decades ago as a "political accident". In 1996, during Tamil Nadu assembly election campaign, Rajinikanth denounced J. Jayalalithaa and her politics. His strong remarks caused her defeat. "I did a mistake by supporting a political alliance 21 years ago. It was a political accident. Since then, politicians have misused my name on several occasions. But I have to clarify, I'm not joining any party," he had said. (With inputs from Agencies)
