Rajasthan: Senior Congress MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma Passes Away At 77

Bhanwar Lal Sharma was the former Cabinet Minister of Indira Gandhi Neher Pariyojana in Rajasthan Government.

New Delhi: Senior Congress MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma passed away at the age of 77, party's Rajasthan unit chief Govind Singh Dotasra informed on Twitter

"His death is a great loss to the Congress family, May God give peace to the departed soul and support to the bereaved family," Dotasra wrote.

Bhanwar Lal Sharma was the former Cabinet Minister of Indira Gandhi Neher Pariyojana in Rajasthan Government. He was a seven-time MLA from Sardarshahar, Churu.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to pay his "deepest condolence" to the veteran leader and stated that Sharma was unwell for quite a long time. "My deepest condolences on the passing away of Congress MLA from Sardarshahr (Churu), Shri Bhanwarlal Sharma. He was keeping unwell for a long time, I was in touch with his family members regarding his health, and met the family to learn about his health by reaching the SMS hospital last night," CM Ashok Gehlot tweeted.

"I pray to God for providing strength to the bereaved family in this difficult time and peace to the departed soul," he wrote in another tweet.

Bhanwar Sharma had become the MLA after getting tickets from Congress for the election in the years 1998, 2003, 2013, and 2018. Previously, he had contested the Rajasthan assembly election for the first time, becoming the MLA from Lok Dal in 1985 and for the second time, he became MLA after he joined the Janata Dal Party in 1990.

In 2020, he was suspended from the primary membership of the party along with Vishvendra Singh for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to topple the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot-led government in the state. He was accused of being among the rebel MLAs in Sachin Pilot's faction. The Congress party then revoked the suspension.
