'Say You Were Intoxicated To Get Saved': Rajasthan Cop Tutors Cleric Arrested For Video Against Nupur Sharma

Ajmer Sharif Dargah Circle Officer (CO) Sandeep Saraswat asked accused Salman Chishti to claim that he was "intoxicated" to "get saved." Chishti was arrested over a video against Nupur Sharma.

New Delhi: Ajmer Sharif Dargah Circle Officer (CO) Sandeep Saraswat in a video was seen asking accused Salman Chishti, arrested for allegedly making a provocative statement against suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, to claim that he was "intoxicated" to "get saved." The officer is now awaiting a posting order, Ajmer Superintendent of Police informed, as per news agency ANI. Ajmer Police arrested Salman Chishti, Khadim of Ajmer Dargah, Tuesday night over a purportedly provocative video against Nupur Sharma.

As per ANI, the officer in the video is heard saying, "which intoxication did you take while making the video," adding, "Say you were intoxicated to get saved."

The arrested cleric is reported to be a history-sheeter and had delivered objectionable remarks captured on video. Following this, an FIR was registered against him on Monday. In the video, Chishti was heard saying that he would gift his house and property as a reward to anyone who brings him the head of Nupur Sharma who had made controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad. As per ANI, he was heard saying that the BJP leader has insulted the Khwaja and the Prophet, alleging that Muslims were being persecuted and killed across the country.

"The attitude of the police administration is very strict regarding this video and will take tough action against anyone making remarks that may trigger communal tensions. Salman Chishti seems inebriated in the video. The police have also spoken to officials of the Dargah and Anjuman, who have urged people to stop the video from going viral," Additional Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan told ANI.

This comes after Kanhaiya Lal a tailor in Udaipur was killed in a gruesome manner on June 28 over his social media post in support of Nupur Sharma.

Last month, Nupur Sharma made objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad during a television news debate on the Gyanvapi mosque case. As a video of her remarks went viral, it led to protests in various states while also garnering sharp reactions from other countries.
