Rajasthan Congress Crisis: Ajay Maken, Mallikarjun Kharge Will Submit Report To Sonia Gandhi Today

Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge will present a report to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday around 12 noon on the developments in Rajasthan following the state's political crisis over the search for a successor to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is expected to run for the party's presidential nomination.

Sonia Gandhi, on the other hand, asked a written report from Maken and Kharge, who were assigned observers for the parliamentary party meeting.
“Mallikarjun Kharge and I briefed Congress chief everything about our meetings in Rajasthan in detail. Now she has asked us for a written report that will be given to her,” Maken was quoted by ANI in its report.
The political crisis was precipitated by Ashok Gehlot's apparent agreement to register his candidate for the Congress presidential nomination and his desire for a successor of his choosing in Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, sources previously stated that the status quo will be maintained until the nominations process is completed as the Congress seeks to resolve the political crisis in Rajasthan caused by efforts to find a successor to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who is expected to run for the party's presidential nomination.
With party observers criticising some of President Minister Ashok Gehlot's followers' behaviour, sources said a decision on issuing show cause notices to disgruntled MLAs who have been loud in public would be made when interim chief Sonia Gandhi reviews the report of the observers deployed to the state.
“Status-quo to be maintained till Congress president election nominations. Decision on issuing of show cause notices to miffed MLAs, vocal in public, will be taken after interim chief takes action on a report by observers,” a source said, ANI reported.
The deadline for submitting nominations for Congress presidential elections is September 30.
Maken, the AICC's Rajasthan in-charge, stated that the three ministers who met with them at Gehlot's house proposed three conditions.
He stated that they urged that a decision on a CLP resolution be made once the results of the Congress presidential election were announced on October 19. Maken, in rejecting the requirement, stated that a resolution is not approved with conditions and that any such action would be "a conflict of interest" for Gehlot.
The ministers also insisted that MLAs meet the observers in groups, which he claimed was unacceptable.
“We wanted to meet every MLA individually so that the decision is free and fair,” Maken said.
He said that the three ministers also stated that Gehlot's successor should be picked from among the 102 MLAs who supported him throughout the 2020 crisis. In 2020, the Gehlot administration faced a political crisis as a result of demands spearheaded by Sachin Pilot and MLAs loyal to him.
On Sunday, Maken met with three Gehlot supporters, Shanti Dhariwal, C.P. Joshi, and Pratap Khachriyawas, who had presented their recommendations.
