Govt Official In Rajasthan Suspected Of Spying For Pakistan Taken In Police Custody

Rajasthan government clerk Shakoor Khan was detained in Jaisalmer for allegedly spying for Pakistan. He had travelled across the border without permission.

A government clerk from Rajasthan has been detained on suspicion of spying for Pakistan, security agencies confirmed on Wednesday. The suspect, identified as Shakoor Khan, was taken into custody from Jaisalmer and taken to Jaipur for further interrogation by a joint investigation team.

The development comes amid the Jyoti Malhotra espionage case, wherein the YouTuber is being investigated for allegedly spying for Pakistan. Apart from Jyoti, several others, including a CRPF assistant sub-inspector named Moti Ram Jat, have been arrested on the charge of spying for Pakistan

Khan, a clerk at the District Employment Office in Jaisalmer, had reportedly travelled to Pakistan without official approval, which was a clear violation of service protocols. As a government employee, he was required to obtain departmental permission before any international travel, especially to a sensitive country like Pakistan.

Govt Official On Radar Since Operation Sindoor

Authorities had been monitoring Khan's activities in recent days due to his suspicious behaviour. The investigation gained momentum following the failed missile attack during Operation Sindoor, where Pakistani missiles targeted the Jaisalmer region but were successfully intercepted by Indian air defence systems.

In a striking development, fragments of one of the missiles landed near Khan's home, with a larger portion falling in a nearby field. The Indian Army defused the missile the following day, raising further concerns about Khan's possible connections.

Security agencies suspect deeper links between Khan and Pakistani operatives, although officials say details will be made public only after the interrogation concludes. Khan is a resident of Jaisalmer district and has now become a key figure in what could unfold as a major espionage case.
