Rajasthan Bans Kanwar Yatra And Bakrid Celebrations Amid Third Wave Scare, Issues Guidelines

The Rajasthan government has banned any kind of religious processions in the state including Kanwar Yatra and Bakrid celebrations.

Jaipur: Raising concerns over the speculated third Covid wave, the Rajasthan government has banned Kanwar Yatra and Bakrid and all other religious celebrations and activities until further orders.

Ashok Gehlot lead government has conveyed that religious pilgrimage in the form of Kanwar Yatra will not be allowed in the state.

The state government has also decided to put a ban on the public offering of prayers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha in Rajasthan.

The new guidelines come after eleven cases of Kappa variant were detected in the state. Last week, two cases of the Kappa variant were also detected in Uttar Pradesh.

The Uttarakhand government had banned the ‘Kanwar Yatra’ earlier, citing the threat due to the Covid pandemic. The borders of Uttarakhand will be sealed for Kanwariyas from July 24. The Supreme Court has also urged the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider its decision to allow the Kanwar Yatra amid the Covid pandemic.

Public parks will remain open from 5 am to 4 pm, they said, adding persons who have taken at least one dose (first dose) of Covid vaccine will be allowed to enter parks from 4 pm to 8 pm.

All the district magistrates, commissioners of police have been instructed to ensure strict compliance of “No Mask No Movement".

The district administration will ensure monitoring of violation of quarantine rules and Covid appropriate behavior in all urban and rural areas, the guidelines said.
