‘What Does Amit Shah’s Son Do?’ Rahul Gandhi Fires Back At BJP On ‘Dynasty Politics’ Barb — Watch
Amid the longstanding debate surrounding familialism in politics, Rahul Gandhi urged an "objective assessment", insisting that observers should scrutinise the BJP leaders as well.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday fired back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s recurring accusation of "dynasty politics" within his party, pointing to dynasties existing within the ranks of the saffron party. The remark was made during a press conference in Aizawl, where Gandhi was actively campaigning for his party's candidates. He responded to a question on "dynastic politics" by asking, "What does Amit Shah's son do? What is he doing exactly? What does Rajnath Singh's son do?"
Amid the longstanding debate surrounding dynastic politics, Gandhi urged an "objective assessment", insisting that observers should scrutinise the BJP leaders as well. He argued, "You are talking about dynastic politics. Last I heard, Amit Shah’s son is running Indian cricket. So please be objective, look at the leaders in the BJP. Ask yourselves the question: What are their children doing? You will find that many of their children, including Anurag Thakur, hail from dynasties."
For the uninitiated, Jay Shah, the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, is associated with Indian cricket administration and serves as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Pankaj Singh, the son of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is an active politician from the BJP and currently serves as a Uttar Pradesh MLA representing Noida. He is also the Vice President of BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit.
Anurag Thakur, also part of the BJP, comes from a political family being the son of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. He has held significant positions, including as the former President of the BCCI from May 2015 to February 2017. He is currently serving as the Minister for Information and Broadcasting as well as the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Modi cabinet.
Mizoram Election 2023: Rahul Gandhi Mounts Attack On BJP, RSS
Rahul Gandhi's response came against the backdrop of intensified political campaigns leading up to the forthcoming assembly elections in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. In Aizwal, he asserted with confidence that the Congress party would secure victories in these states, asserting that the BJP would be "decimated" in Madhya Pradesh, news agency PTI reported.
The former Congress president criticised the BJP and its ideological parent organisation, the RSS, saying: "Their vision for our nation is different from ours. We believe in decentralisation, whereas the BJP believes that all decisions should be taken in Delhi."
In the context of the Northeastern states, where the political climate has been notably charged, Gandhi voiced concerns over attacks on the region's religious and linguistic diversity. He accused the BJP and RSS of threatening the foundations of regional beliefs and languages.
